Ruud Pvrp50n Owners Manual
Offline Hi, I recently moved to a house with a Ruud PVRP50n gas power vent hot water heater. I can't find any info on this unit, since it looks like Rheem now owns Ruud. Can anyone tell me where the anode rod is located on this model? There are two insulated holes with plastic caps, but I also read it could be under he power vent unit. Any help is appreciated, or if anyone knows where a manual is located, that would be very helpful. Thanks Posted: Mon Dec 22nd, 2014 05:30 pm Member Joined: Sat Sep 11th, 2004 Location: Posts: 3903 Status.
Offline It is almost certain that the power vent blower assembly covers the anode. That has been the case for all the A.O.Smith models I have worked on and a Richmond model, also manufactured by Rheem. Sadly, Rheem, and its subsidiary brands seem reluctant to post manuals online.
You could try emailing Ruud customer service and ask nicely, pointing out that as a responsible homeowner you would like to have the relevant owner's manual. Ask for a link to a downloadable version, or they could email you a PDF version, or they could mail you a printed version. It can't hurt to ask. As far as removing the blower assembly, it really is not difficult. FIRST, take some nice, sharp, well lit photos of the current condition. Then take simple notes of each step of your disassembly.
Start with electrical connections, then the exhaust pipe connection, then mechanical fasteners that hold it to the top of the water heater. It should come off as one assembly. There is probably a gasket also. Preserve or replace it. After checking and possibly replacing the anode, replace the blower by reversing the steps from your notes.
Ensure that the finished assembly matches the photos you took at the start. Of prime importance is a nice tight seal to prevent the leakage of any combustion products. After you do it once, it doesn't seem as onerous as it looks.
If you have questions before or during, ask here and someone should jump in with help. Do not let the presence of the power vent deter you from checking and servicing the heater's anode. It is most important thing a home owner can do to prolong the life of their water heater. And by using one of Randy's good magnesium anodes, the quality of their water.
