Awesome little tractor, D600 3cyl engine really digs in and doesn't miss a beat throwing heavy 9' of snow 40'. Made quick work of my 400' drive. Anyway, I also just found for pretty cheap a G4200 that had the 3pt kit (G9702) and rear PTO kit (G9703) options and hydro implement lift. (also had G2000 front blade) The 2 cyl engine in the 4200 is pretty weak (compared to the 5200's 3cyl), runs loud and rough, smokes alot, PO said he replaced the injection pump and the machine just looks a heck of alot more beat up. Missing bolts and messed up wiring and whatnot. Anyway, so I wanted to swap this 3pt setup onto my 5200 and I notice that the 4200 seems to be a few years newer (serial number is quite a bit higher than the 5200), I can see some various improvements in a few areas, but one thing that caught my eye is the rear axle is alot more stout than the 5200's. I just can't decide if I should swap the whole axle/transmission assembly as one unit or just swap out the 3pt setup, it looks alot more work than I really anticipated to swap the whole axle/tranny assembly.
Plus, while I'm sure the 4200 is 'newer', my gut says it has lead a lot harsher life than my 5200. Especially after I half disassembled the rear end of the 4200, it had loose bolts and kinda looks like it may have been all apart before. Both have the close to the same hours on the meter (1500), but the 5200 has an aftermarket meter. I guess I'm just afraid if I swap the entire tranny/axle assembly the tranny's more likely to give out that the 5200's. On the flipside, even before I had the 4200, I was checking of the 5200's design while I was changing it's fluids and checking it over, and that rear axle caught my eye as seeming somewhat cantilevered/stress like design.
But I can be a paranoid kinda guy sometimes. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with their 'older' design rear axle being a problem in these G series units, seems they obviously updated it for a reason. Current 4200 rear axle, notice the cast housing is wider puting the outer bearing out further towards the wheel.
(I've already removed the 3pt, hyrdo lift, pto and related brackets and whatnot) And the current older 5200 rear axle: BTW, does anyone know what implements if any, besides the rear tiller that kubota offered, the rear PTO can drive? Seems to not be standard anything, spins as basically engine speed and has a female coupler. Not sure what usefulness it is. (Recent snow poser pic). I have a G6200 running unit and a G4200 parts machine.

I will have to look tomorrow to see whether the axels are different on these two models. As far as implements, if you go to the Kubota website and to the parts look up section, it lists all of the implements and accessories that were offered for the models. Other than the motor on my 6200 being a 16 hp with a hydralulic lift deck and the 4200 being a 12 hp with a manual lift deck, I have been swaping parts as needed with no issues at all. I already had planned on working on the 4200 tomorrow to see if I can get the motor going in order to sell it. It has not been started in years. I absolutely love my 6200 especially considering that I got both of the units for $600.

Other than buying new belts for the front TPO, I haven't had to put out any money for parts. The parts that I swapped from the 4200 to the 6200 were strictly cosmetic parts. Got to look at my units this afternoon. Both have the same rear end. Whether they are the older or newer ones I have no idea since all I see for pictures are the red error X's. Can anyone else see the pictures? Not sure why you can't see the pics, but if your machines have an angled rear ear of the frame with a vertical bolt at the very back of the frame ears going into the top of the axle, it's the 'newer' design.
If your rear frame is cut perfectly vertical and no vertical bolt going into the top of the axle from the frame directly, then it's the 'older' design. At least that's what I assess. I found a bunch of older ebay and gov't auctions with pics and the ones that list serial numbers, the very very low serial numbers seem all to have the old design while most had the newer design. Leading me to believe the older design was only for a short while or something.
I'm in the middle of swapping the axles. I'll have to fab up that angled ear piece of the frame on my 6200, it looks to be a welded on reinforcement plate anyway on the 4200. Both my 3200 and 4200 have the wide axles Got any pics of the 3pt hitch setup, looking to build a sleeve hitch for my 3200 want to see how the 3pt hitch is mounted to the tractor Thanks I don't right now, and I'm out of town this week. I can take some when I put it back together.
Here's an older auction I came across and saved that shows the 3pt/w rear PTO just like mine. The hitch is the same as the standard plate that comes without the 3pt, 4 bolts to the bottom of the axle, only the 3pt includes a hitch that is just extended a couple inches to clear the PTO mechanism.
