Oh how I wish it was. Have a few unsanctioned local leagues that insist on using ASA rules. Hard to use ASA rules without anyone being able to get a current rulebook without bribing someone that is an ASA sanctioned participant! And those are few and far between in this area, there was an attempt to get some ASA sanctioned ball down here a few years ago but nothing ever came of it.
Ditto Little League. Summer ball leagues want to play by Little League rules, yet arent sanctioned so they cant get books. Oh how I wish it was.

Ditto Little League. Summer ball leagues want to play by Little League rules, yet arent sanctioned so they cant get books. That is one of the points of sanctioning the league and where I do agree with ASA. You want the product, you pay the price. Don't want to pay the price, you have no right to complain. I am pretty sure that one can buy the ASA Rules directly from ASA without being affiliated with ASA.
And, I am pretty sure that you no longer have to be affiliated with Little League anymore to buy both its Baseball or Softball Rules Book. And, I am pretty sure that you no longer have to be affiliated with Little League anymore to buy both its Baseball or Softball Rules Book. I used to offer my excess books to folks who were willing to buy them. Face value and the money went into the state umpire's account. Unfortunately, you need to have a commissioner who is willing to round up your need instead of one who likes to try to cut corners and under order hoping some registered umpires will not ask for their book.
We have a group of seniors who play softball in a Del Webb Sun City community. There governing rules are ASA. They make a few changes cuz they're old but they play under ASA rules predominantly.
That being the case, the community association I think provides insurance for players using a community facility. So no ASA insurance. Their umpires, while not taking the test and becoming certified by ASA, follow ASA rules and are trained by fellow ASA umpires. Are we saying that this group 'cannot' or 'isn't entitled' to purchase ASA rule books? If so, it's seems pretty bizarre.

ASA had a rules app for Iphone and Android but they are no longer available and the rulebook still cant be purchased without being an umpire through the ASA other than through second hand sources.
Did find the LL rulebooks through their website. The local leagues that use those rules and arent sanctioned through LL do carry their own insurance and they pay their umpires.

If so, it's seems pretty bizarre. Don't believe anyone made such a statement. But why is it bizarre for an organization which IS in a business to run that business to support themselves? While I have no problem selling the rule book, I understand why it is not part of their merchandising. It doesn't promote their organization or help the locals associations with any registrations or games for their registered umpires.
This is one of the reasons registration for the UIC clinic requires a commissioners endorsement. Other alphabet organizations were sending their folks, so ASA was literally training their competition.

Pay the registration, you get a rulebook.
Register the teams; they get rulebooks. Register the umpires, they get rulebooks. Don't register, not entitled. Seems like a pretty simple concept to me. I only need the rule book in PDF even with a password locked PDF document that we can put on our website. We're not going to 'steal' anything.
We don't need the services or goods ASA provides because: 1. We ain't sanctioned in any way, we're a bunch of 65 years plus guys that would like access to ASA rules. We don't need insurance. We don't run ASA tournaments 4. We don't use ASA umpires, we use our own under our own insurance.
Our intent is no to take anything away from ASA. If anything we promote ASA by using their rule-set and advertising such.
What would be the logic to us signing up with ASA when all we need is a copy of their rules for a website. By the way, the apps ASA is promoting won't post to a website. I only need the rule book in PDF even with a password locked PDF document that we can put on our website.

You are saying you are not taking anything, but you are whining and pouting that they will not allow you to take their merchandise without paying for it. Not only that, but you are not advancing or supporting shit other than you own stingy selves.
You don't want to use ASA umpires, but you want their rules and think you are helping ASA? Are you.ing kidding me? You really need to step back and look as what you are saying.
